What makes Dyneema netting different

Dyneema is a brand name for UHMWPE fibers, short for ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. Nets made from this fiber combine high tensile strength with a remarkably low weight. Its key properties:

  • up to 15 times stronger than steel at equal weight
  • very low elongation (under 4%)
  • high cut and abrasion resistance
  • fully resistant to corrosion and moisture
  • chemically inert, so oils, fuels and salts have no effect

That is why Dyneema replaces PP, PA or steel when those materials are too heavy, too weak, or too maintenance intensive. Because the fiber is lighter than water, UHMWPE nets even float.

Dyneema nets by application

Defense and anti-drone protection

Defense organizations use Dyneema nets as protective netting, vehicle screening and lightweight camouflage structures. The low weight keeps mobile setups easy to move and install. Our drone nets are also available in Dyneema, for training zones and site protection alike. These nets often complement our wider range of nets for defense applications.

Offshore and maritime use

On ships, offshore platforms and in ports, salt and moisture wear down conventional materials. Dyneema does not corrode and is resistant to fuels and salts. That makes it a strong choice where corrosion, salt and weight decide the outcome.

Fall protection and personal safety

Fall arrest and impact nets must absorb high energy without structural deformation. Dyneema netting handles those loads while staying light enough for mounting at height. Its low stretch does require precise engineering of loads and attachment points.

Industrial lifting, sports and architecture

In industry, Dyneema nets secure or protect heavy and valuable components with minimal load on the structure. The same strength-to-weight ratio benefits climbing facilities, extreme sports settings and architectural net structures. For ball sports, our ball stop netting is made from materials such as HDPE, PP or PA.

Technical specifications of our Dyneema mesh

Every Dyneema net is supplied to measure. The right configuration brings out the full benefit of the material and prevents waste.
Technical aspectPossible specifications
MaterialUHMWPE (Dyneema)
Thread thicknessapprox. 1.0 to 6.0 mm
Mesh size10 mm to over 150 mm
Tensile strengthextremely high (many times that of PP and PA)
Elongationvery low (under 4%)
Weightvery light relative to strength
UV resistanceexcellent, suitable for outdoor use
Chemical resistancevery high
Net structureknotted or knotless
Finishingreinforced edges, loops, custom fastening

Keep in mind that Dyneema is not a forgiving material. Because it barely stretches, loads, installation and fastening must be technically correct.

Why choose Netco for Dyneema netting

Anyone can sell Dyneema. Applying it correctly is a different story. Netco has supplied technical nets since 1974. Every project starts with the application, not with the material.

✔ Load analysis first
We assess loads, dynamics and safety factors before we choose a material.

✔ No over-engineering
If Dyneema is not needed, we tell you. PA or HDPE is sometimes smarter and cheaper.

✔ Fully custom
Mesh size, thread and edge finish are matched to your application.

✔ Reliable performance
We design nets that work within the safety margins, not at their edge.

Dyneema netting FAQ

Is Dyneema stronger than steel? Yes, at equal weight, Dyneema is up to 15 times stronger than steel. The fiber is also light enough to float on water, which makes it ideal where strength and weight both count.

What is Dyneema made of? Dyneema is made of UHMWPE, short for ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. This fiber combines extreme tensile strength with low weight and high resistance to cuts, abrasion, and chemicals.

Where is Dyneema netting used? Dyneema netting is used in defense, anti-drone protection, offshore and maritime projects, fall protection, and industrial lifting. It fits wherever high loads and low weight must go together.

Is Dyneema netting UV resistant? Yes, Dyneema netting offers excellent UV resistance and is suitable for long-term outdoor use.

Can Netco make Dyneema nets to size? Yes, every Dyneema net is made to measure. We match mesh size, thread thickness, and edge finish to your application and expected load.

A Dyneema net built around your application

Dyneema nets deliver when performance is non-negotiable. At the same time, their low stretch calls for a careful, technical approach. Share your application, dimensions and expected loads with our team. Together, we decide whether Dyneema is the best fit or whether another material serves you better.
